Project Overview

Morningstar is a global provider of independent investment research and financial data, operating offices across North America, Europe and Asia. As part of a strategic real estate improvement initiative, Morningstar fitted out new high-spec floors in their Mumbai office, purpose-built to meet the organisation’s latest global AV standards and support the demands of a modern hybrid workforce.

The client selected SI as the trusted installation and commissioning partner for this deployment. The scope covered six distinct workspace environments across multiple floors: a high-performance event space, divisible training rooms, standard meeting rooms, digital signage zones, refuge areas and a reception area.

While managing a wider project that extended over a year from initial design and planning through final delivery, Allwave delivered a fully integrated and centrally managed AV ecosystem that supports hybrid collaboration, presentations, live events and internal communication while standardising technology across every space type and meeting Morningstar’s global AV specifications. A major highlight of the project is the seamless integration between divisible training rooms and the event space, enabling dynamic room configurations.


What did the client want to achieve?

Morningstar aimed to build a future-ready workplace aligned with its global audiovisual standards while enabling seamless hybrid collaboration across its new Mumbai office. The objective was to establish a standardized AV ecosystem that delivered a consistent user experience across meeting rooms, training spaces, event areas, reception and collaboration zones.

A key requirement was the flexibility to operate training rooms and the flagship event space independently or combine them into larger venues without compromising audio clarity, video performance, or usability. This required intelligent room-combining, centralized AV control, seamless signal routing and efficient resource sharing.

Additionally, Morningstar required native Zoom Rooms integration, enterprise digital signage, high-performance presentation systems and centralized AV management to simplify operations while meeting global workplace technology standards. The scalable, reliable solution supports future expansion and seamless collaboration across all room configurations and meeting formats.


Scope of work your company was involved in

SI was appointed as the official installation and commissioning partner, responsible for transforming the approved AV design into a fully operational enterprise workplace solution. The scope covered procurement coordination, site supervision, equipment installation, AV rack integration, structured cabling validation, system programming, commissioning, testing, user acceptance and final handover.

The deployment spanned six workspace environments across multiple floors, including divisible training rooms, a flagship event space, meeting rooms, reception digital signage, collaboration areas and refuge zones.

SI engineered and commissioned an AV-over-IP ecosystem using Q-SYS as the centralized control and DSP platform. The solution included room-combining logic, Q-SYS touch panel programming, Poly Zoom Rooms integration, Sony intelligent auto-framing cameras, Shure beamforming microphone arrays, DSP optimization, enterprise digital signage and centralized audio distribution.

Comprehensive testing and commissioning validated every control workflow, conferencing function, signal path and room configuration, ensuring seamless interoperability and successful delivery in line with Morningstar’s global AV standards and project timeline.


What key challenges were faced?

The project involved integrating multiple AV technologies across diverse workspace environments into a unified, enterprise-grade ecosystem. A key challenge was ensuring consistent performance across meeting rooms, divisible training rooms, the flagship event space, digital signage and collaboration areas.

The most complex requirement was enabling seamless room-combining between the training rooms and event space. As spaces merged or operated independently, microphone zones, camera tracking, DSP processing and AV routing had to automatically adapt to each configuration, ensuring uninterrupted collaboration without audio interference or incorrect camera behavior.

Maintaining consistent audio quality across changing room layouts presented another challenge. Different acoustic conditions created by movable partitions required dedicated DSP tuning, microphone calibration, and loudspeaker optimization for every room mode.

During commissioning, intermittent AV-over-IP network issues resulted in packet loss, audio distortion and camera latency. These were resolved through detailed system validation, network optimization and end-to-end testing, ensuring seamless interoperability and reliable enterprise performance before final handover.


How were those challenges resolved?

SI adopted a commissioning-led engineering approach focused on system performance, interoperability, and long-term reliability. Every subsystem underwent functional verification before end-to-end integration, ensuring consistent operation across the enterprise AV ecosystem.

For the divisible training rooms, engineers created dedicated microphone zone maps and camera presets for each room configuration. Q-SYS control logic was programmed to automatically recall DSP settings, camera presets, AV routing and user interfaces whenever rooms transitioned between divided and combined modes, eliminating manual intervention.

Acoustic optimization involved multiple DSP tuning iterations using Shure MXA920 beamforming microphones and Q-SYS Core processors. Separate gain structures were calibrated for different room conditions, with optimized settings stored as automated Q-SYS snapshots to ensure consistent performance after reboots and room reconfigurations.

During commissioning, AV-over-IP network instability was resolved through comprehensive diagnostics and deployment of dedicated Netgear AV switches. Extensive system testing validated conferencing workflows, signal paths, control interfaces and room-combining scenarios, ensuring reliable enterprise performance from day one.

The completed deployment provided Morningstar with a standardized, enterprise-grade AV platform that supports seamless collaboration, improves operational efficiency and aligns with its global workplace technology standards.

Employees now benefit from a consistent collaboration experience across meeting rooms, training facilities, and event spaces through standardized user interfaces, native Zoom Rooms integration, and centralized AV management. Intelligent room-combining enables training rooms and the event space to adapt dynamically to changing occupancy and event requirements, maximizing space utilization without additional infrastructure.

The centralized Q-SYS architecture simplifies monitoring, diagnostics, management, and future expansion while reducing operational complexity for IT and facilities teams. Enterprise digital signage and integrated audio systems further enhance workplace communication and user experience.

Supporting hybrid meetings, executive presentations, town halls, training, and live events through a single integrated platform, the solution delivers reliable, scalable performance and was fully operational from day one.


What are you most proud of about the project?

The timely completion of the project with proper QA/QC was achieved despite a stringent timeline, and we were able to deliver the project to the clients on the integration date. The clients were overly satisfied with the project delivery as well. The proper communication, planning, execution, complex programming, and QA/QC being followed were the biggest achievements; the site was handed over without any compromise in quality checks.
